Oven Cleaning: A Step-By-Step Guide

An oven tends to build up dirt and grease after months of all that baking and roasting. So, it is essential to clean it once a while to ensure its optimal performance. Although some ovens are equipped with a self-cleaning feature, it won’t serve the purpose if your equipment is completely messy. To help you clean your oven using the safest and most effective way possible, we have prepared an oven cleaning guide. Follow it to get the cleaning job done rightly.

Instructions To Clean An Oven

2. Spread Paper Towels On The Floor

The next step is to spread paper towels or newspapers around the oven. Make sure to cover the bottom of your equipment to prevent your surface from getting messy.

3. Wear Protective Clothing

Before you actually start cleaning, wear an apron, protective glasses, mask, and gloves. This is extremely crucial if you are working with chemical cleaners.

4. Clean The Oven

If you are using an over-the-counter oven cleaner like easy off oven cleaner, make sure to read product labels before cleaning with it. Most readymade cleaners take approximately half an hour to clean the oven. Set the timer after reading the instructions.

5. Clean The Racks Outside

Put your oven racks in a large garbage bag and take the bag outside. Set them in a plastic bag and spray a good cleaner like easy off oven cleaner. Tie off the top of the bag once you are done with spraying.

6. Wipe The Interior Of Oven

Take damp dish towels and wipe the inside of your equipment with them once the timer goes off. Employ a plastic spatula or knife to scrape off any caked residue. Make sure to wipe the hard-to-reach spots thoroughly. Dry the oven before installing the racks.

7. Put The Racks Back In The Oven

Once the timer for the oven racks goes off, open the garbage bag. Take the racks out and wash them in the sink with a warm soap solution. Wipe them with a damp towel to eliminate grease. Dry the racks completely and put them back in your oven.

8. Cleaning Using Natural Cleaner

If you are seeking a natural solution to clean your oven, make a baking soda paste. Adjust the ratio of soda and water in such a way to achieve a spreadable paste. Let this paste sit for 10-12 hours. Follow this by wiping the oven. Spray some distilled vinegar or citric acid to ward off bad smells. Finally, wipe the oven with a damp cloth. To clean the racks, use the same baking soda paste. Scrub the racks with the paste and rinse them with distilled water. You can also use fresh lemon to scrub your oven racks.

Follow this oven cleaning guide for effective and hassle-free cleaning. We recommend using easy off oven cleaner as it is one of the safest cleaners for deep oven cleaning.
